Limnological study of the reservoirs of Embalses de Prada, Matalavilla, Peñarrubia, Montearenas, San Sebastián.
From 2018 to the present, the study of the water quality of different reservoirs based on the phytoplankton community, determined as the only element of quality for the establishment of the ecological potential according to RD 817/2015 and the Hydrological Plan, is carried out on an annual basis.
Sampling of reservoirs is carried out by boat and involves both a physicochemical profile of the water column and sampling of different chemical (alkalinity, nutrients, contaminants, etc.) and biological (phytoplankton and chlorophyll a) parameters.
In addition, the ecological status/potential of both the tributary and receiving rivers of the different reservoirs is determined based on quality elements: biological (diatoms, macroinvertebrates, and macrophytes), hydro morphological and physicochemical (pH, oxygen concentration and saturation and concentration of ammonium, nitrate, and phosphate).
